Higher error correction keeps the code scannable if it gets scuffed or partly covered, but adds more squares. For print shops and sign makers, the SVG is vector and scales to any size.
Four rules for a QR code that scans
We see a lot of QR codes come through the shop. These are the things that make or break them.
Go big enough
Keep it at least 2 cm (0.8 in) square on cards and flyers. A good rule: scanning distance ÷ 10 = minimum width. So a code read from 10 ft away should be about 1 ft wide.
Dark on light
Use a dark code on a light background with strong contrast. Light-on-dark and pastel codes fail on a lot of phones. Skip gradients and busy photos behind it.
Leave a margin
The blank border around the code (the "quiet zone") is part of the code. Don't crop it, and keep text and graphics out of it.
Test, then print
Scan your proof with an iPhone and an Android, from the distance people will really stand. Check the link lands where you expect.
Print it on something people keep.
A QR code earns its spot on anything a customer holds or walks past. Send us your code with your order (or save it to your Brand kit) and we'll place it on the proof for your approval.

Do these QR codes expire?
No. These are static QR codes: the link or info is stored in the code itself, not on a server, so there's nothing to expire or pay for later. The flip side is you can't change where it points after printing, so double-check before you print.
Can I use them on things I sell or print commercially?
Yes. Use them anywhere: cards, menus, packaging, signs, vehicle wraps. No attribution needed. ("QR Code" is a registered trademark of DENSO WAVE INCORPORATED.)
Do you track who scans my code?
No. The code goes straight to your link, number or network. If you want scan counts, add UTM tags to your website link (for example ?utm_source=flyer) and watch them in Google Analytics.
PNG or SVG: which should I send my printer?
SVG is vector, so it stays razor sharp at any size and is ideal for signs, banners and vehicle graphics. PNG is easiest for Word, Canva, social posts and email. At 1024 px or larger, PNG is fine for business cards and flyers.
Can you design the card or sign around it?
Yes. Layout and design are part of our paid design service, quoted up front. Or upload your own print-ready artwork with any catalog order.
